Overview
Meru National Park is located 348 kilometres from Nairobi via the Nyeri-Nanyuki-Meru road, and 290 kilometres via Meru. Bisected by the equator and 13 Rivers with Baobab trees and Doum palms growing along the waterways, this park — which was once home to the famous Lisa the lioness of “Born Free” –will surely give you the relaxation and scenic beauty that you so desire.
Additionally, the great Mount Kenya can be viewed together with Adamson’s falls. Animals to be seen here include: Leopard, Elephant, Lion, Black and White Rhino, Grevy’s Zebra, Oryx, Duiker, Lesser Kudu, Dik-dik, Cheetah, Hippo, Crocodile, Hartebeest, Giraffe, Buffalo, Gerenuk, Bohor Reedbuck, Eland, Hyena, and Waterbuck. Snakes such as Cobra, Python, and Puff Udder are also present. Birdlife features more than 400 species.
The topography in the park is mainly thorny bushes, wooded grasslands, riverine forests and many Rivers. The climate is arid and relatively hot with temperatures reaching 32°C in the day and falling to 17°C at night.
Moreover, the best times to visit is June through September, during which there are little to no rains and the grass isn’t too long to make it hard to spot the animals. Nonetheless, the park can be visited all year round and it is never crowded so you can have most of this beauty to yourself.
