Shimba Hills National Park

Serving as the only home in Kenya to the endangered Sable antelope, and being the second largest coastal forest in the East African region, Shimba Hills National Reserve prides itself as a center for scenic beauty featuring an abundance of flora and fauna, birdlife, reptiles and insects, and the wildlife roaming underneath.

Located just 60 kilometers from the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa, the reserve is a quick getaway where you can view big herds of Elephants in Mwaluganje forest, experience the beauty of Sheldrick Falls, or have a guided bush walk into the thick forests where you can spot most of the 111 species of birds that reside in the reserve.

Moreover, the reserve is home to many other animals including Giraffe, Civet Cat, Vervet monkeys, Genet, Leopard, Buffalo, Bush pig, Bush Duiker, Hyena, Shrew, Sykes Monkey, Bush baby, Leopard, and Blue Duiker among others. A few types of snakes also reside in the reserve such as Cobra, and Python. Lizards, Geckos, and numerous types of butterflies are also found within these borders.

The climate in the reserve is hot and moist and the average annual temperature is 24°C. The best time to visit is during the dryer months of June through October.
